IVF & ICSI
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a process where the eggs are fertilized by the sperms in vitro or in a lab dish Once the sperm fertilizes the egg, it then facilitates the development of an embryo in the laboratory. Once the developmental process goes through, the same embryo is then placed into the uterus of the women undergoing the IVF treatment to get along with the pregnancy.
If you need IVF?
IVF is indicated when alternative treatments are either unlikely to achieve a pregnancy or have failed to achieve a pregnancy or have failed to result in a pregnancy. If you have blocked Fallopian tubes or extensive pelvic adhesion preventing the egg from entering the Fallopian tubes, IVF is indicated. Another common indication for IVF is low sperm counts. Because IVF allows us to super concentrate sperm, successful fertilization can occur even if your partner has low sperm counts.
Infertility is said to be “unexplained” if you are unable to conceive in spite of all tests being normal. In this case, IVF is an option if you have failed to conceive with Intrauterine Insemination (IUI).IVF may also be advisable if you have Polycystic Ovaries (PCOS) and if ovulation induction with or without IUI has not been successful. If you have mild to moderate Endometriosis, IUI may be tried before proceeding to IVF, but in cases of severe Endometriosis, IVF may be advised directly.
How ICSI can help?
ICSI is mostly similar to IVF with the fertilization process been the only difference between both the procedures. Although IVF consists of mixing of the sperm and the egg in a lab dish and then letting it developed into an embryo before getting implanted into the woman’s uterus. On the other hand, ICSI picks the most productive sperm is picked with the glass needle and then injected directly into the egg.
The whole process is brought into the act by experienced embryologists in a safe and secure environment using the most advanced equipment. ICSI is been advised to all those couples and especially men, who sperm count and quality are lower and the pregnancy cannot be achieved whilst getting through the conventional IVF process.
